Lethal League Review

Lethal League, developed and published by Team Reptile, is an indie fighting game that is a uniquely weird combination of Ping Pong and target practice. You have a small roster of 6 very different characters from a young baseball player like Raptor to the cybernetic crocodile like Latch. Your objective is to hit your opponent with a ball, as you hit the ball, it'll gain speed moving faster and faster. The faster the ball moves (can hit 1 million mph) the more hectic and panic-inducing the match becomes, where you'll go from strategic bunts and hits to spamming the hit or bunt buttons hoping to land the hit to turn the tide.

Lethal is a fun game, that supports up to 4 player local co-op which can lead to some awesome team and FFA battles. Lethal League is definitely a true party game, that has the potential to entertain for hours. Gameplay is simple, the graphics are rather nice, and the bumping soundtrack gets you moving and keeps you loose even when the tensest of moments show up at the most abrupt times possible.

Learning the basics of the game is simple, but Lethal League is one of those games that is easy to learn, but hard to master. The mechanics are really simple, you can jump (some characters can double jump), hit (in various in all 8 directions), bunt (which stops the ball in place making it easier for you to hit the ball), special moves (which are unique to each character in the game).

The graphics are nice, vibrant, and pleasing to the eyes. Though the backgrounds on the stages are static, you really aren't stressing about them as your main focus will the ball that's bouncing off the corners and sides of the screen. Each stage does have it's own "element" and brings something new to the game in subtle ways. Each level is also partnered with its own custom song that plays on a loop. Each track is energy building and almost trance inducing as there will be times you can't help yourself but to bounce and bob along to the beat. This simple caveat is something that I really enjoy most about Lethal League.

Lethal League is currently available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 for $14.99, which honestly is a great price for an indie with such amazing character.
